Organisers say they hope the race will raise in the region of £10,000. Since it started back in 1976 the raft race has raised £750,000 for local charities.

Good crowds cheered the race goers and from start to finish and it was reported that all the bacon butties had sold out before the raft race started.

“It was a time of good weather and good humour. The all-time record for completing the race of one hour eight minutes still stands but this year the winning time was one hour 14 minutes,” said Peter Fisher, publicity officer for the race said.
