VIDEO: Heavy rain leads to flood alerts

HEAVY rain overnight and throughout today, Monday, has led to localised flooding in many of the usual spots around Stratford-on-Avon, with two flood alerts currently in place.

The Environment Agency issued a flood alert at 3.30pm for parts of the River Stour near Shipston-on-Stour, and at 6pm it included the River Arrow and River Alne near Alcester on the alert list.

A spokesman said: "Heavy rain has fallen within south Warwickshire overnight and this morning.

"This has resulted in river levels rising in this area and there may be flooding to low lying land and roads. We expect the rain to continue throughout the evening and for river levels to remain raised for the next few hours, however no flooding of properties is expected and no warnings are expected to be issued.

"Take care near areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions and the www.gov.co.uk We are currently monitoring the situation."

Fields and roads across the district have standing water on them, including one hotapot outside the Alveston Manor Hotel on Banbury Road, Stratford-upon-Avon, where for most of the morning drivers had to wade through a fair deep collection of water.

Stratford has thankfully avoided the worst of what has been named Storm Angus which has hit south west England the hardest.
