VIDEO: Dramatic footage released on Welford robbery

A SHOPKEEPER was injured when he confronted three armed men as they robbed the Maypole Stores in Welford-on-Avon Monday night.

The trio were all wearing dark clothes with their faces covered when they stormed in with hammers, threatening Raj Sandhu, who owns the shop, before leaving with a quantity of cash.

It happened at 8.20pm at the store on High Street in the centre of the village.

The men ran off after an alarm sounded inside the shop and drove off in a dark-coloured Mercedes.

Mr Sandhu suffered minor injuries to his hands and arms.

Detective Sergeant Richard Simpkins, of Warwickshire Police, said: “Fortunately, the victim only suffered minor injuries but he has been left feeling shaken.

“The shop is on the main road through Welford so someone passing by may have seen the incident or seen the men coming or going from the store.

“I would like to appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident reference 384 of 22 January 2018. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org
