THE River Avon through Warwickshire is still on flood alert today, Wednesday.

Residents and businesses along the section of the Middle Avon from Rugby, through Stratford-on-Avon and down to Bidford-on-Avon are still being told to 'be prepared'.

Water levels peaked on Tuesday and have been receding since then, although it remains above what is described as its 'typical range'.

The national flood information service website said this morning: "River levels remain high on the River Avon between Warwick and Bidford-on-Avon.

"River levels have been falling overnight and will continue to do so into this afternoon. Flooding of low lying land and roads may still occur today.

"Further rainfall is forecast later this week when levels may rise again.

"Take care near areas of concern and continue to monitor the GOV.UK website for further updates. We will continue to monitor the situation."

The flood alert on the River Stour was removed on Tuesday.

There was a flood warning on the River Dene around the Walton and Wellesbourne area, that was removed on Tuesday.

A alert remains in place on the River Evenlode in Moreton-in-Marsh.

New temporary flood barriers were put up along Waterside in Stratford-upon-Avon for the first time last year as part of a training exercise following their announcement as part of a multi-million-pound flood protection plan across the Midlands.
