MANOR Road residents breathed a collective sigh of relief after a travellers' camp which set up on King Edward VI School (KES) playing fields on Saturday, has finally moved on.

“Whilst I am obviously relieved that the travellers have left the site without confrontation, it is frustrating that we had to go to the expense of employing bailiffs to clear the site without delay. Our Estates Team are now in the process of clearing up the site and repairing the damage to the pavilion. We have taken the necessary action to prevent re-entry in the short term and are considering permanent boundary solutions to prevent unlawful access to the site in the future. We have been overwhelmed by offers of support from parents to help clear up the site for which we are very grateful,” Bennett Carr, KES headmaster said.

Initially police were called last weekend to Manor Road in Stratford-upon-Avon after a row broke out between residents and travellers who entered the site and moved in with eight caravans.

Two police cars, one with dogs, attended the scene around 7pm on Saturday.
