UPDATE: Junior doctors and colleagues take strike action
Andy Gibson, a newly qualified doctor, who was at Warwick Hospital today said: "It's worth saying that we've not been on strike for 40 years, but this is such a big issue for us that we've had to take this action. I've only just qualified as a doctor and this has the potential to affect my whole future."
Meanwhile Alison McCorry, a second year GP trainee added: "We've had great support, there's more than 20 people here. The public have been very supportive too bringing us food and drinks," Alison McCorry, 2nd year GP trainee.
During today’s 24-hour strike, which began at 8am, junior doctors will only provide emergency care.
The South Warwickshire NHS Trust has yet to confirm the number of junior doctors in our region that have decided to strike but there are currently around 120 doctors in training across the trust.
"The thing is they want the NHS to become a seven-day service, some services such as accident and emergency already run every day of the week, but we simply don't have the resources to run every service seven days a week. We don't want to strike this is a last resort," Miriam Anderson, and A&E trainee said.
