TV gardener rings school’s historic bell
TV gardener David Domoney, presenter on ITV1’s Love Your Garden, visited Stratford Primary School before the summer holidays to ring a bell that dates back to 1883.
The school, which celebrates its 135th birthday this year, is running a campaign to bring celebrities onto campus to ring their 19th century school bell.
Due to the age of the bell tower, the bell is no longer sounded on a regular basis, so this campaign aims to keep the bell tolling for a few more years to come.
The school have started a photo wall that will showcase all the celebrities that have attended to ring the bell.
The first celebrity to make the cut was David Bradley, who played Argus Filch in the Harry Potter film series.
David said: “I’m thrilled to have been asked to ring Stratford-upon-Avon Primary School’s bell, it’s certainly not something I’ve done before!
“Both my Mother and my colleague Alan Titchmarsh are bell ringers so I had better get it right.”
Head teacher, Gill Humphriss, added: “We were thrilled that David Domoney attended to ring our school bell, especially as he’s so passionate about encouraging school children to get into the garden and learn about the great outdoors.
“The celebrities who have attended to ring our bell so far have had a lot of fun making it resound through the streets of Stratford.”
