Traffic delays caused by gas leak in Wood Street

A GAS leak in Wood Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, is the cause of traffic disruption in the town.

On Friday morning and throughout the day traffic queued at the half way point of Wood Street where the work is taking place; a traffic light control system is also in operation.

The work is being carried out by National Grid and comes just days before the arrival of the Mop.

A statement to the Herald from National Grid said: “Our engineers are working to repair a gas leak in Wood Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, caused by contractors working in the road.

"We'll be there today, Friday, and tomorrow, Saturday, to safely repair the gas pipe and get the road back to normal as quickly as possible.

"We appreciate that next Tuesday's Stratford Mop Fair is a key annual event and we'll keep everyone fully updated."
