Tina and Zoe excited to compete at Chelsea Flower Show

A former student and a lecturer from Moreton Morrell College are set to compete against the UK’s best florists at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show next week.

Tina Aram, who teaches at the college, is a finalist in the show’s florist of the year competition while 21-year-old Zoe Rowlinson, who left Moreton Morrell last year, is competing in the young florist of the year final.

Both Tina and Zoe won through in regional heats to make it to the finals at the show.

The duo have been working on their individual creations for the final for the past few weeks with a brief to create a Brazilian-inspired headdress for a carnival.

Tina said: “It’s my first time competing at Chelsea so it’s a bit scary but I am looking forward to it and my other half is a great support.

“I teach floristry here at Moreton, but also work in a retail florist, so I have a lot of industry experience that I can pass on to the students so it’s a good balance. Competitions are hard work but really fulfilling - hopefully I can inspire my students too.”

Zoe, who has previously won a bronze medal at the show and a gold medal at World Skill UK, currently works as a florist in Oxford.

Zoe said: “It’s really exciting to be at the Chelsea Flower Show again. Having competed before, I know what to expect so hopefully I’ll be a lot calmer and will be able to really focus on the flowers.”

Floristry lecturer, Jane Benefield from Moreton Morrell College said: “We’re so proud of Tina and Zoe and want to wish them the very best of luck for the finals from everyone at the college. They are so creative and talented and thoroughly deserve all their success.”

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is on from 24-28 May 2016.
