Thai Festival brings Orient to Warwick Racecourse

WARWICK Rotary’s popular Thai Festival is being staged at Warwick Racecourse, tomorrow, Sunday; it has moved from the town centre after 11 years.

Over 40 food and craft stalls full of the spiced aromas of eastern cooking will set up in front of the grandstand and a stage with entertainment and a children’s play area will ensure families have plenty to do. Warwick Racecourse is making bars and other facilities available.

This year there will be a small entrance charge of £3 in advance, £5 on the gate. Tickets can be obtained from the racecourse, on-line, as well as at Warwick and Leamington Tourist Offices.

Buddhist monks will set up a temple and start the festival off with their ceremonies, followed by a programme of entertainment on stage throughout the day. There will be Thai dancing, a Warwick Thai boxing club the “Thai Warriors” will be demonstrating their skills on stage, as well as folk dancing, cooking, and flower arranging. Children will be kept busy with paint balling, roundabouts and slides and a goal shoot.

The festival started over ten years ago after the Boxing Day Tsunami, to send aid to Thailand.

The festival runs from 10.30 am to 6pm.
