Tea was served as celebrations brewed
THE tea was flowing in Stratford-upon-Avon ArtsHouse on Friday, 22nd April, when some 230 guests enjoyed a free afternoon tea to start the weekend of Shakespeare celebrations.
The event was hosted by Stratford Town Trust to enable the town’s older residents to participate in the events that took place over the weekend.
Guests were allocated their free tickets in a draw earlier this year, and they enjoyed a two-course afternoon tea to the sounds of Chris Long on piano.
Entertainment before the tea was provided by the students of Stratford College, who, accompanied by Alex Dengate, performed Songs from the Musicals.
Avon Floral Art provided floral table arrangements featuring flowers mentioned in Shakespeare’s works.
Claire Bowry, Grants Manager at the Town Trust, said: “The original intention of the trustees was to provide an opportunity for older people in the town to feel part of the anniversary weekend; and what a wonderful afternoon it was, bringing people together to celebrate not just Shakespeare but also Stratford.”
