England’s Talent Development Officer, Fred Furniss, said the whole group had been the best he’d seen for a long time.

In addition, both girls were picked to swim in the ESSA (English Schools’ Swimming Association) Inter Divisional Championships in Leeds, where they swam superbly representing the West Midlands.

Laura set a new personal best of one minute 01.97 seconds in her leg of the 4 x 100m freestyle relay which helped secure a bronze medal for the team, whilst Madeleine swam a confident individual 100m butterfly in a new PB of 1.07 as her team won bronze in the 4 x 50m medley relay.

With the West Midlands finishing in fifth position overall and only 28 points short of second place, the girls proved worthy competitors.
