Stratford pupils served up a taste of summer for discerning judges in a competition to create a brand new ice cream sundae.

Six young finalists saw their recipes recreated for the contest by chefs at Marcos restaurant in Chapel Street, were they were put to the taste test by a judging panel including Herald editor Amanda Chalmers.

The winner was declared as eight-year-old Cai Turner, of The Willows School, whose ingredients for his Sunflower Surprise consisted of chocolate milk, chocolate buttons, bubblegum ice cream, mint ice cream, strawberry laces, caramel stick and wafer as well as an edible icing flower.

Cai, who wants to be a chef when he's older, won an apron signed by celebrity chef Marco Pierre White, cookery book, certificate and free family meal at the restaurant.

He said: "I just thought of all my favourite things to put into it. I'm didn't expect to win and I'm really happy."
