Stratford's minor injuries unit to reopen, NHS announces

Stratford Hospital’s Minor Injuries Unit will re-open this summer.

After months of uncertainty about the future of the MIU, South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust and Coventry and Warwickshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) jointly announced yesterday (Wednesday) that they are working together to safely restore the MIU.

A statement reads: “Re-opening this service has been challenging due to on-going staff shortages, which we continue to experience across our services. However, working with the CCG, the trust are developing a joint staffing model with support from external providers.

“This will ensure the unit is able to operate safely, whilst keeping the level of staff needed to run the main emergency site in south Warwickshire at Warwick Hospital.

“Both partners recognise how valued the service is by the local community and we are keen to mobilise the plan as quickly as possible with a phased re-opening of the Minor Injuries Unit by summer.”

The unit was closed to allow staff to be redeployed to help the trust cope with the pressures from the pandemic.
