PLANS for a big wheel on Stratford-upon-Avon’s Recreation Ground have been revealed with a 35 metre structure set to dominate the town’s skyline.

The observation wheel has not been given the go ahead but plans have now been formerly submitted by De Koning Leisure Group Limited to Stratford District Council for consideration.

It’s believed the wheel will carry up to 144 passengers who would be charged £5 each to view some of the best sights in Stratford but the wheel isn’t popular with everyone it seems.

A Twitter poll conducted by the Herald this week showed that 69 per cent of those who responded were against the proposal. Stratford Boat Club, local residents and businesses have also voiced their objections mainly on the grounds of privacy and they say Stratford doesn’t need an observation wheel when it already has an observation tower at the theatre.

De Koning say the Stratford wheel would have a footprint of 21 metres by 17 metres, would operate from 10am to 10pm and would be in situ for six months of the year, during the spring and summer tourist season.

What do you think? Should Stratford give the big wheel the thumbs up or down?
