Stratford man who drowned on Cornish holiday was looking for family dog

MORE details have emerged over the tragic death of Stratford-upon-Avon man Trevor Priest who drowned on a family holiday in Cornwall last Tuesday.

Initial reports suggested Mr Priest, aged 63, had died trying to rescue his dog after it swam into the sea at Dunderhole Point, Tintagel but it is now understood Trevor Priest had gone looking for the family pet and may have lost his footing and fallen into the sea.

A coastguard search and rescue helicopter based at Newquay was dispatched to the scene along with an ambulance from the South Western Ambulance Service and a lifeboat.

A spokesman from Devon and Cornwall Police said; “Police were informed around 12.50pm that a man described as in his 60s was in distress in the water near Dunderhole Point, Tintagel. Coastguard and police attended as did the air ambulance, who took the man to Treliske Hospital.”

Shocked friends of Mr Priest’s family have posted their condolences on social media.
