STRATFORD’S new High Steward was appointed this week at the Town Hall.

The 9th Marquess of Hertford has become the 24th High Steward of Stratford, a largely ceremonial role which dates back to the Royal Charter of James I.

The nomination requires the consent of the Queen and her signed approbation warrant was formally presented to Lord Hertford by Stratford mayor, Cllr Tessa Bates.

The previous High Steward was Sir William Dugdale, who occupied the post from 1976 until his death in 2014.
