SOME of the district’s brightest students are celebrating after being offered coveted university places at Oxford and Cambridge.

At King Edward VI School there was a record 17 Year 13 students offered places, five at Cambridge and 12 at Oxford.

Headmaster, Bennet Carr, said: “Applying to Oxford and Cambridge is one of the most competitive academic challenges for any sixth former, and we are very pleased for the successful candidates. Of overriding importance is that evident passion for the subject and ability to read and research beyond the confines of the examination specifications.”

At Stratford Girls’ Grammar School, seven students won conditional offers to study at the world-leading universities, four at Oxford and three at Cambridge.

Headteacher, Jacqui Cornell, said: “All of our students have worked incredibly hard and prepared themselves exceptionally well for the next steps in their educational journey. The Oxbridge offers are a reflection of this, and continue the upward trend of achievement here at SGGS. I am equally proud of the variety of offers that have been received from a number of leading institutions and look forward to following their progress.”

At Alcester Grammar School six students have been offered places, four at Cambridge and two at Oxford.

Ian Young, head of sixth form, said: “As ever, we are as delighted for our successful Oxbridge applicants, as we are for all those pursuing university courses and apprenticeships who have received their offers. Our Alcester Grammar Aim High programme has spent considerable time and energy helping prepare candidates for Oxbridge, but it is the sheer brilliance of the students themselves that should get the credit. We are fortunate to attract such talent.”

Elsewhere Isuri Sanchi Arachchi, a student at Chipping Campden School has been offered a place to study Geography at Oxford. Principal, John Sanderson, said: “We are delighted that Isuri is joining the evergrowing group of young people from Chipping Campden School who are offered places at Russel Group Universities, with four in ten securing places as opposed to one in ten nationally."
