Station signs point out the healthy way to travel

NEW signs have been installed at Stratford-upon-Avon Parkway and Leamington Station to encourage people to walk and cycle to town centres and key visitor destinations.

These are the first to be installed with Warwick Station, Stratford Station and Warwick Parkway next in line for installation in June.

The signs contain maps with average walking times to these destinations and highlight key walking and cycling routes.

The project has been led by Warwickshire County Council's Public Health department, with transport and tourism officers, district councils, station managers and local interest groups invited to attend workshops to help shape the design of the signs.

Cllr Les Caborn, portfolio holder for adult social care and Health said: “Walking and cycling are not only cheap and accessible, they’re good for people’s health and wellbeing as well as the environment.

"These signs are designed to help people to understand how long a journey may take and the most direct route, in the hope they will encourage people to walk and cycle more as a travel option.

“We have some wonderful visitor attractions in Leamington, Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick which bring many visitors throughout the year.

"These signs should help to make our towns easier to navigate, more welcoming and more environmentally friendly.”
