The service will form part the final episode of Timothy and Prunella’s popular Chanel 4 series Great Canal Journeys, which regularly attracts around 3 million viewers.

Timothy has strong connections with Stratford having been a member of the RSC for three seasons in the 1960s, while his son Samuel played the lead roles in Richard II and Hamlet at the RSC.

Prunella and Timothy are also patrons of the Avon Navigation Trust, which preserves and maintains the canals, navigable rivers and inland waterways of the River Avon.

Timothy said: “We were delighted to have been asked to speak to people inside this fantastic church, the acoustics are great, sometimes when we go to bigger spaces the acoustics are just terrible.

“It think it went very well, everybody laughed when they were supposed to so we’re very pleased.

“We have done the canal in Stratford before, it’s definitely one of our favourites, Its great because you go past so many wonderful places you can stop at. You just can’t rush on the canal.

“I would love to see the upper Avon canal extended to Warwick.”
