Shakespeare Shuttle raises more then £12,000
A 30-strong team of students from King Edward VI School have raised more than £12,000 for charity following a tough 125mile relay challenge.
The team took part in the Shakespeare Shuttle on 23 April, carrying a quill from Shakespeare’s schoolroom and Guildhall to the Globe Theatre in London, in honour of the Bard.
Setting off at 5.30am, students, parents and teachers cycled to Marlow, where they had intended to row down the river.
On the day itself the river was too swollen to row down so the quill was transported by runners and cyclists down the tow path to Eton, before it was cycled to the Shakespeare Way on the Grand Union Canal.
The final 24 mile stretch took runners to the theatre at Bankside, Southwalk where the team was welcomed to Shakespeare’s Globe by chief executive Neil Constable.
The money raised will go to WaterAid, The Warwickshire Air Ambulance and for sports provision at the school.
£8,500 of the £12,000 raised came via corporate sponsorship from Graftongate, Rosconn, Kiki Dairy Free, Tudor Physio, Dickson, Johnsons Coaches, DCS Group, FPS, Quotidian Investments, Prima Power, Amicus Accounting and The Phoenix Group.
