Stage shows to raise funds in memory of Annabel Greenhalgh

THREE stage shows in memory of a much-missed schoolgirl, will raise money for charity.

The performances are a tribute to 11-year-old Annabel Greenhalgh, who died suddenly in October last year.

Annabel was a Year 7 student at Alcester Grammar School when she complained of severe stomach aches and was taken to A&E.

The next day, after being discharged from Warwick Hospital, she died.

Annabel’s mother Josie has spoken of her ongoing “horror and devastation” at the loss of her daughter and her struggles to open the shutters or leave the house afterwards.

In the 12 months since the tragedy, Josie, Annabel’s father Craig and friends in and around Bishop’s Tachbrook where the family live, have worked tirelessly to raise funds for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and The Fluency Trust, which helps young people who stammer to communicate confidently.

Activities have ranged from cake bakes, a scarecrow trail and a musical to climbing Mount Snowdon and running 25-miles along the Cornish coastline.

Their efforts have propelled Annabel into the top 100 fundraisers for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Earlier this year, Josie described how building a legacy in Annabel’s memory by raising money to help others has given the couple purpose and helped numb the “pain and despair”.

Annabel was born at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in 2011, where she needed care for a bowel condition.

As a baby, she spent seven weeks in the hospital after having surgery to remove a blockage and returned in 2016 for further surgery.

The production, ‘A Doorway to the Stars’, includes a mix of singing, dancing and acting by Raise the Roof Theatre Company and will be staged at Myton Upper School Hall in Warwick.

Proceeds will go to the family’s two chosen charities, as mentioned earlier.

Amelia Fewtrill, who wrote the show, said: “We are a small group of performers, professional and amateur, across all age groups from the local community, all coming together for this important cause.

“We’d love as many people as possible to come and enjoy our show, remember Annabel and help raise funds for two worthy causes.”

She added: “Annabel was at preschool with my sons as well as them going to the same school. Annabel loved performing so it seemed apt they put on a show.”

The performances, sponsored by Leamington based solicitors Blythe Liggins, are on Friday, 17th November at 7.30pm and Saturday, 18th November at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £5. To book, email doorway_to_the_stars@hotmail.com.
