Post Office to help in fight against crime

CRIMESTOPPERS has teamed up with the Post Office to fight crime in communities across the county.

The new campaign recognises the vital role post offices play at the heart of their communities and how they can help protect them from the impact of crime.

Crimestoppers and the Post Office said they were keen to ask people to help them keep the community and community assets like post offices safe.

Posters and leaflets will be displayed in branches and there will be lots of activities on social media as part of the four-week campaign.

Pauline Hadley, West Midlands Regional Manager at the charity Crimestoppers, said: “Post Offices play an invaluable role in the heart of the communities they serve. Research shows that the public see them as important as their bank, convenience store and local pub. We should all work together to help protect them.

“We want to reassure local communities that the Post Office is working with our charity to help protect communities from the negative impact and consequences of crimes committed against them. We hope that by raising awareness, we will encourage people who know something about crime or criminals targeting the Post Office to speak up. We know some people are reluctant to go to the authorities, for a range of reasons. Crimestoppers charity is here to give you a voice whilst guaranteeing that you will remain 100% anonymous. Always.”

Mark Raymond, Head of Security Operations of Post Office Limited, added: “The Post Office is responsible for providing products and services right at the very heart of the community and as such we have a duty to keep our customers safe. Post Office are pleased to be working in partnership with both Crimestoppers and West Midlands Police to encourage communities to be vigilant and help prevent criminal activity.”

Anyone with information about any criminal activity in their community can contact Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through the non-traceable Anonymous Online Form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
