WELLESBOURNE Airfield’s popular Wings and Wheels event, which regularly attracts thousands of visitors, has been cancelled for a second year running.

The XM655 Maintenance and Preservation Society, which cares for Wellesbourne’s Vulcan bomber and runs Wings and Wheels, received a letter from the airfield owners last week confirming that they would not allow the event to take place.

Wings and Wheels comprises of an airshow and a fast taxi run by the world’s only Vulcan bomber capable of moving under its own power.

Visitors are also offered the chance to find out more about the airfield’s flying schools and businesses open their doors to the public.

Wings and Wheels was also cancelled last year with the organisers saying that its small team of volunteers would be unable to put on the event following changes to the way air shows were run following the Shoreham Airshow crash in 2015.
