Hi-tech solar panels worth up to £45,000 have stolen from a giant solar farm on Stratford’s doorstep.

The site, at Drayton Manor Farm on Alcester Road, was targeted sometime between 29 August and 1 September, with offenders believed to have used a lorry to steal the panels.

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said: “Police received a report of a significant number of solar panels being stolen from a yard close to the former DEFRA site off Alcester Road, Stratford, sometime between 5.30pm on Tuesday 29 August and 9am on Friday 1 September.

"The value of the panels is understood to be tens of thousands of pounds and officers urge anyone who spotted any suspicious activity in the area between the times stated to call 101, quoting incident number 80 of 4 September."

A spokesperson for Anesco, which runs the solar farm, said the company would not be commenting on the incident at this stage of the police investigation.
