Police 'busier than New Year's Eve' after England match

WARWICKSHIRE Police has said that a high number of calls it had on Saturday night meant officers were busier than they are on New Year's Eve.

The surge in calls followed England's World Cup quarter final win over Sweden in the afternoon, although the force has yet to confirm whether it was as a direct result of the football.

But in a series of tweets, the force's operations and communications centre (OCC): "Officers across the county tonight are dealing with an increase in violent disorder incidents, a lot of which are alcohol related. Don't ruin your night by not knowing your limits and behaving in a way that could see you staying in one of our cells in our custody blocks."

Another read: "It is nearly 3am and we are still incredibly busy with emergency and non emergency calls coming in. Last night and tonight have been - and are - busier than New Years Eve. Our staff in the OCC and officers are working incredibly hard to try and deal with the increased demand."
