BILL and Ben the Flower Pot men were sitting comfortably in Henley High Street as they were one of many entries in the Henley in Bloom Scarecrow Festival.

Organisers invited pupils from Henley CE Primary and St Mary’s Catholic Primary to create their own scarecrows which were then put on display in the Guild Hall Gardens recently.

Guest appearances were made by President Donald Shrub, World Cup Golden Boot winner Harry Kane of England and there was even a Royal scarecrow couple when Prince Harry and Meghan showed up.

Twelve scarecrows were up for a public vote which saw 250 people choose Henley Primary’s Box of Crayons – each crayon representing a scarecrow. Meanwhile the other winner was a mermaid made by pupils at St Mary’s who cleverly used CDs for the mermaid’s tail.
