Plan to convert offices into flats above Stratford town centre shop

TOWN centre offices in Stratford could be turned into six flats.

A planning application is seeking to convert the offices at 18 Wood Street, but would retain the retail section of the building which is currently occupied by CEX, a buyer and seller of electrical equipment, games and gadgets.

Behind and above the shop are offices and a conference room.

The planning application intends to convert these into six, one-bedroom flats – one on the ground floor, four on the first floor and the final flat on the second floor.

Most of the flats are above the CEX retail unit in Wood Street.

The application states: “The existing retail use, which is a separate business unit, is retained as a whole with no impact or change. This application relates to the office business use with [the] company previously operating from the site for more than 10 years relocating.”

It adds: “The scheme is effectively making the town more vibrant with living above the shop, bringing vacant space into sustainable use in line with government requirements.

“The new proposed apartments will comply with minimum national area space standards and with natural light and ventilation requirements through a combination of using existing windows and openable rooflights.”
