Work is underway on a planning application to split up Stratford’s former BHS building on Bridge Street, amid offers on the building from retailers and a restaurant operator.

This week MMX Retail, the company marketing the vacant building, confirmed that three potential tenants had submitted offers to occupy parts of the building.

The company confirmed that discussions have taken place with the district council in preparation of a planning application to divide the building.

A spokesperson for MMX Retail said they were unlikely to be in a position to name the new tenants for around six months.

Since BHS closed in 2016 the site has remained unoccupied, with some complaining that it now looks ugly and overgrown.

Former Stratford mayor Cyril Bennis has even proposed demolishing the building which he says has been an eyesore for years.
