CLASSIC cars, motorcycles and aeroplanes were the centre of attention at Bickmarsh Airfield near Bidford-on-Avon on Bank Holiday Monday, 30th May, as its fourth Wings and Wheels event took place.

Around 1,000 attended, helping to raise £2,500 for local charity, the Home Farm Trust.

More than 250 classic cars were on display as a number of local enthusiasts’ clubs gathered to show off their pride and joys.

Local businesses supported the event by contributing tombola prizes to the Home Farm Trust, who had a stall at the event, and a competition for best car, motorcycle, farm vehicle and aircraft, proved popular.

David Findon, chairman of event organisers The Bidford Gliding and Flying Club, said: “The whole point of this event is to raise awareness of the airfield and show that we contribute to the local community.

“It’s about putting something back into the community, we don’t want people just thinking of us as that noisy group from up the road.

“This was probably the biggest Wings and Wheels event we have ever held. We took a few aircraft up and there was a lot of interest in them, we had the de Havilland Dragon Rapide out and we had a large car display.

“There were a couple of Bugattis about too, there was a lot of money in that car park.

“This tends to be quite a low key event because it can get rained off at short notice, but the weather stayed fine. I would like to thank everybody who supported and attended the event.”
