New mayors in Stratford-upon-Avon, Alcester and Shipston are preparing for an exciting 12 months ahead, as they begin their terms in office. In Stratford Cllr Juliet Short became the new mayor of the town at the town council’s annual mayor making ceremony today (Thursday).

Cllr Short replaces Cllr Tessa Bates as mayor and Cllr Victoria Alcock will become the new deputy mayor.

It will be the second term Cllr Short will have served as mayor, while she also spent eight years as a district councillor between 2000 and 2008, and was chairman of the district council in 2005/2006.

Shipston unanimously elected Cllr Ronnie Murphy to succeed Cllr Jackie Warner as mayor on 9 May, with Cllr Ali Henderson voted in as his deputy.

On 3 May Alcester Town Council appointed Professor Cllr Chris Brannigan as the new mayor, with Cllr Yvette Morrison becoming deputy mayor.

Cllr Brannigan takes over from Professor Cllr Neal-Sturgess.

It has been all change at Stratford District Council too with Cllr Susan Adams becoming the new chairman of the authority yesterday (Wednesday 18 May).

During his term of office Councillor Mike Gittus has raised £5,383.65 for his Chairman’s charities, Alcester Dementia Café and Stratford Cancer and Eye Hospital £1M Appeal.

Councillor Mrs Susan Adams (Alcester and Rural) has chosen Stratford Cancer and Eye Hospital £1M Appeal and Life Space, Stratford-upon-Avon, (mentoring young people and helping them to achieve more) as her Chairman’s charities for the year.
