New cashless payment system for parking goes live
MOTORISTS wishing to park in Warwickshire no longer have to hunt for change following the introduction of a new system that lets you pay for parking with your mobile.
RingGo is a quick, easy-to-use mobile phone service that allows users to pay for parking by credit or debit card, rather than with cash at a machine. The service has recently gone live in Warwickshire and complements existing car parking payment methods in the county.
Councillor Peter Butlin, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Transport and Planning, said: “This service has worked very successfully in other parts of the country and will make parking in Warwickshire much more convenient – both for residents and visitors to our county.
“You can still pay for parking with cash in the conventional way, but mobile payment is being introduced alongside cash payments as a handy alternative. This has a number of benefits, including the ability to extend your stay, within the allowed time limit, without having to return to your vehicle.”
Councillor Philip Johnson, Chair of Warwickshire County Council’s Communities Overview & Scrutiny Committee, said: “The introduction of RingGo in Warwickshire means that you no longer need to have change to park your car, making it easier for people to shop, eat and get a coffee in our town centres, which will hopefully be a boost for our local town economies.”
People using RingGo can pay for parking online, via text message or by calling a standard rate telephone number that will be displayed on signs.
