New £500,000 sports ground gets Royal approval
THE Duke of Kent is in Barford today, Wednesday, to open a new £500,000 sports ground that is named after his grandfather.
People living in Barford, Sherbourne and Wasperton have raised the money to refurbish King George’s Field, which includes a new multi-games area, tennis courts and a new store and toilet facilities.
Other improvements include a new perimeter path, additional benches and a picnic area.
The Duke led the official opening at 11.30am and was then due to walk to Barford Village Community Shop followed by a lunch for guests.
Mark Griffin, leader of the group of residents who led the project, said: “All who have invested so much time on this project, as well as villagers from across Barford, Sherbourne and Wasperton, are immensely proud and incredibly honoured that HRH The Duke of Kent has agreed to officially open the refurbished King George’s Field."
