STRATFORD-UPON-AVON MP Nadhim Zahawi paid a visit to the new Stratford Samaritans Community Hub at Tyler House.

And he praised the ‘fantastic’ facilities and the ‘incredible’ work of Samaritans volunteers during his visit on Friday, 10th June.

Mr Zahawi was one on the judging panel of Stratford Town Trust’s £1million CommYOUnity Challenge, which funded Tyler House.

The Hub was the biggest winner, being awarded £420,000 by the Town Trust to fund the building renovation and support its initial running costs.

Tyler House opened earlier this year having been completely transformed. Its office and event space which can be hired by any charitable or community-based organisation needing a meeting place in the town, whether that’s permanent or a one-off.

It is also the new home of Stratford-upon-Avon and District Samaritans, who have a one-to-one room, ready to welcome anyone in need who wants to come in to talk, while upstairs volunteers take up their posts each day, to man the phones and reply to emails and texts to help people in crisis.

“Having visited Stratford Samaritans previous base in Shakespeare Street, Nadhim was clearly impressed by the space and layout offered by Tyler House,” Rachel Key, Hub Manager, said.

“He said it was fantastic, so much better for Samaritans volunteers who do such incredible work.”

Mr Zahawi also met other groups benefitting from the new community space. Heart of England Mencap, supporting local people with learning disabilities, was holding its first Carers Forum at Tyler House on the day.

The Steering Group discussing Social Prescribing in the Wellbeing Hub of the new Stratford Hospital were also using the hub. Mr Zahawi also saw the studio of Welcombe Community Radio, a volunteer run station, which will be on the air in the summer.

More than 30 local groups and charities have used space at Tyler House since it was opened in February, supporting people aged three months to 80+.
