Stratford's Shakespeare Morris are holding an open day this Saturday.

Shakespeare Morris recently raised £300 for the Shakespeare Hospice in memory of Geoff Watkins, one of the troupe's main dancers whose funeral was on Friday, 17th August. "They add he is: "A dearly missed friend to all in our group and the folk community at large where he was very well known."

Two sessions are being held at Stratford Racecourse, from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm. You can join in and learn local Cotwolds dances, or just watch and listen to the music.

Meanwhile Flowers of Ilmington women’s Morris are inviting women of all ages to a ‘have a go at Morris dancing’ event. It takes place on Tuesday, 4th September from 7pm to 8.30pm in Ilmington Village Hall.

No previous experience is required but a sense of fun and a willingness to give it a go are essential. They would also like to invite men and women musicians (any portable instrument except melodeon) to come along, learn a tune or two by ear or notation and then play for the dancing. Contact Nicola on 07837 081147 or email nicola@nicolabaylis.co.uk for details or just come along and join in. Everyone will be made very welcome.
