The cycling group was founded in 2012 and now has more than 100 members – local residents, children and their families - who can take part in weekly bike rides.

Leaders gradually move club members up from very short rides to 50-mile jaunts in under four hours, and then to hill-climbing.

H-BUG leader, Steve Bullen, said: “The money means that local children who couldn’t afford bicycles can still get involved and enjoy cycling with H-BUG.

“Taylor Wimpey’s donation means that every child in the village now has the opportunity to cycle.

“We’re basically encouraging children and their mothers to ride a bike safely, and to enjoy their cycling in a social environment

“My aim is to eliminate all the excuses for not cycling, and to get as many children as possible onto a bike.

“I like to think I’ve changed the culture of the village, so it’s now a cycling village.”

Anne Wallace, regional sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey, added: “We’re dedicated to supporting the communities where we build and we hope that the two bikes bought with the Taylor Wimpey donation will help local children enjoy this excellent outdoor sport.”
