A Stratford charity has landed a top square on the town’s forthcoming Monopoly board, set to be released next month.

Heart of England Mencap, will occupy a Community Chest Square on the board and is the second charity to be confirmed of a spot along with the Shakespeare Hospice.

Heart of England Mencap was voted to appear on the board in a charity poll held earlier this year.

The Stratford Herald will also occupy a spot, taking the prestigious Fleet Street square.

Di Yeoman, Marketing and Media Officer for Heart of England Mencap, said: “We’re incredibly excited about Heart of England Mencap featuring on the new Stratford-upon-Avon Monopoly board and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for us.

“It’s wonderful to know that so many members of this community value the work we do supporting local people with learning disabilities.”

Natasha Rebuck, from Monopoly producers Winning Moves UK, said: “A very big congratulations to the Heart of England Mencap for making it onto the board, along with the Shakespeare Hospice.

“The Stratford-upon-Avon Monopoly charity poll was extremely popular and thank you to everyone who nominated.

“The board will be out in October and we will then reveal all the other Stratford landmarks – which will be around 30 in all."

Ms Rebuck revealed that a number of attractions including Holy Trinity Church, Bancroft Gardens and the RSC Theatre were vying for top places on the board and retailers had already put in huge advanced orders for the game.

She added: “Interest in the board for Christmas has been beyond our expectations and at this rate it looks like the only boards which will be left come Christmas Eve will be the ones on Santa’s sleigh. We are having to print a lot more boards than we first anticipated and even those may not be enough.”

Stratford’s Monopoly board will be launched at the RSC on 13 October and will be available at retailers including Waterstones and WH Smiths and online at Amazon.co.uk
