John Parker was a store manager at Tesco in Stratford but died at the age of 31 in September. In tribute to his memory and to raise money for Bloodwise, Stratford United coach Jackie Proctor and her husband Martin, who was a colleague of John, organised a friendly football match two weeks ago.

“FISSC gave us the pitch for free and after the game we had a fundraiser at the Yard of Ale pub in Stratford. We held a minute’s silence before kick-off and wanted to raise awareness about the charity which helps people and families cope with leukaemia,” said Jackie.

She said there were plans to stage the football match again next year and a shield, called the John Parker Shield, would be created in memory of their much cherished friend.
