100th birthday is celebrated with card from King Charles
A 100-year-old woman has revealed on her centennial birthday that her secret to living a long life is to ‘never stay angry’.
Margaret Miller celebrated her 100th birthday with a small party at the Kineton Manor care home last week.
She said she couldn’t believe that she has lived until 100, jokingly adding: “I actually feel about 200”.
Mrs Miller, who has three children, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, said her secret to a long and happy life is: “Lots of good food, vegetables and good holidays.”
Giving some wisdom to the younger generation, she said: “My advice is don’t stay angry.”
She also received a card from King Charles congratulating her on living such a long life.
The beautiful card, adorned with a velvet gold sash and donning a picture of the King and his wife Camilla dressed in a royal blue, said: "My wife and I are so pleased to know that you are celebrating your one hundredth birthday. This brings our warmest congratulations and heartfelt good wishes on such a special occasion.”
Before moving to Kineton Manor, Mrs Miller lived in the village of Ilmington, Shipston-on-Stour, with her husband Jack Miller for 33 years.
The couple were married for 70 years before Mr Miller passed away in January 2015.
Their romance started during World War II when Mrs Miller was working as a nurse in Derby.
Mr Miller was fighting in the war, eventually working his way up to Squadron Leader in the RAF.
She began sending him letters and the two of them got along like a house on fire, tying the knot in 1945.
They went on to travel the world together and welcome three children.
Margaret joins the ranks of roughly 15,000 British people who have been alive for more than a century.
