Local firefighters help battle moorland blazes
Firefighters from Stratford and Alcester have joined those battling raging moorland fires in Lancashire.
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service have sent two crews to help in the operation, one consisting of firefighters from Alcester and Stratford and the other from Rugby.
A spokesperson from Warwickshire County Council said: “Two appliances were sent on Saturday night to Lancashire to operationally assist. Two appliances were sent, together with eight firefighters and one officer. One crew was from Rugby Fire Station, the other from Alcester and Stratford stations.
“The crews returned on Sunday.
“There are discussions about sending further support later today but we do not have the details at this stage.”
Closer to home Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service had plenty to deal with as 18 grass fires, some of which are believed to have been started deliberately, were reported across the county over the weekend.
In Great Alne on Friday evening a 10x50m area of grass and horse manure was reported ablaze in a field off Park Lane.
One fire engine was sent to the scene and firefighters used aqua back-packs to dampen down the fire.
Elsewhere another fire was also reported at Baddesley Clinton.
