LIVE BROADCAST: Watch extraordinary meeting of Stratford District Council live

The introduction of controversial green bin charges and increased parking fees are expected to be deferred during an extraordinary meeting of Stratford District Council at 2pm today, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Both measures had already been approved by the council earlier this year, but the authority is likely to delay the green bin charges until at least March 2021 and parking increases until at least April 2021.

The meeting, which will be live streamed, is also expected to see the council adopt a range of measures designed to ensure continuity of council business and decision making during this time.

These include delegating powers to the chief executive to make grants to support the local community and economy and to incur expenditure required by the council to deal with the impact of coronavirus.

Powers currently delegated to the Cabinet will be transferred to the council leader for the time being, except for those powers reserved to the cabinet by law.

Other changes include delegating decisions on planning applications to the head of planning and housing (subject to conditions) and cancelling all council, committee and sub-committee meetings including the Annual Meeting on 22 May.
