WELLESBOURNE resident and Warwick School pupil Kieran Speechly has completed one of the most challenging long distance bike rides that it’s possible to do in the UK.

Kieran, who is just 13, rode from John O’Groats at the northern tip of Scotland to Lands End in Cornwall in just 16 days.

He covered over 1000 miles during the trip, going up more than 17000 metres of hills - commercial planes fly at around 9000 metres - and burning over 56000 calories - that’s more than 250 donuts.

Kieran is a keen triathlete, racing for Stratford Athletics Club, and is a seasoned cyclist and a member of Stratford Cycling Club, regularly attending their training sessions at Tiddington and joining their junior road rides.

He made the ride with his dad, Andrew, and between them they have raised over £1000 for their chosen charities – The Alzheimer’s Society, and Parkinsons UK – both causes that affect family members.

On completion of his trip, Kieran said: “It was more challenging than I thought it would be, and it might be a few days before I get back on my bike, however, I’ve seen the whole of the country and completed one of the most challenging long distance bike rides that it’s possible to do in the UK.”
