Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn visited Stratford-upon-Avon this weekend.

He attended the Mischief Festival at The Other Place on Friday night. The festival includes a double bill of political dramas: #WeAreArrested, which tells the story of exiled Turkish journalist Can Dündar, who sought to expose corruption in the government; and Day of the Living, about the 2014 disappearance of 43 students in Ayotzinapa, Mexico.

Mr Corbyn, whose wife, Laura Álvarez, is Mexican, often speaks at solidarity events organised by London’s Mexican community.

Actor Mark Carey, who lives locally in Ilmington, met Mr Corbyn on Saturday afternoon as they both watched a performance of The Tempest at the Dell – the RSC’s outdoor stage – by young theatre company Gobstoppers.

Mark told the Herald: “We talked Shakespeare and theatre and political plays in general. Also the terrors of live streaming. He’s a really nice gentle chap who was easy to chat to.

“He’s a big Shakespeare fan, always a sign of humanity.”

Mark’s one-man play, Into the Breach, is on at Lower Quinton Village Hall, this Friday at 7.30pm. It tells the story of George Crocker, who keen to liven up his dull life decides to join the Village Drama Club. What happens then turns his world upside down.

Set during the Second World War it is a nostalgic, funny and moving story will appeal to all, from ten years and up. It is a vivid portrait of village life with all 17 colourful characters played by one man.

The Mischief Festival continues at the RSC until 23 June.
