Huge Christmas goose weighs in at 21lbs

IN all the years of rearing free range geese, staff at Heart of England Farms, based near Claverdon, have never seen a goose as big as the one recently purchased by a customer.

Weighing 9.5kg, nearly 21lbs, the goose is bigger than the average weight for table geese which is usually 4kg or 8.8lbs.

This whopper of a bird far out-weighs any other goose reared at the farm in 30 years.

Owners Ole and Judy Gronning are hoping that the lucky customer is delighted with their super size bird come Christmas Eve, and that their request for "the largest goose please" was meant in all sincerity, as this is certainly what they will be getting for Christmas dinner!
