THE Shakespeare Hospice will have its own square on the Stratford version of Monopoly when it goes on sale later this year.

The public was invited to vote for two charities to appear on the game and this week it was announced that the hospice in Shottery received the most votes and its name will appear on a Community Chest square.

Originally the games’ chiefs at Winning Moves UK, makers of the Monopoly: Stratford-upon-Avon Edition board game, under official license from Hasbro, had promised just one square.

But so overwhelming was the response that they doubled the offer to two as a ‘thank you’ to the public for the support for the game.

The second charity will be named nearer the time of the launch of the board.

Vikki Calcutt, the Shakespeare Hospice’s head of income generation, said: “We are honoured to have been voted and selected as one of the Community Chest squares on Stratford Monopoly.

“Ever since we opened in 1999 the community have been behind us and for them to vote for us to be the local charity shows us once again, what an incredible community we live in.

“A big thank you to everyone who voted.”

The board will showcase and feature around 30 Stratford landmarks when it goes on sale in October. It will also feature the Stratford Herald after we helped secure enough votes to get the special edition game in a poll against four other towns across the country.

It will go on sale before Christmas.
