Horse scheme gets £1,000 police cash

TWO community projects — one tackling rural issues and another helping solve problems in a town centre — have received a funding boost from Warwickshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Ball.

Warwickshire Horse Watch, based at Warwickshire College’s Moreton Morrell campus, has received £1,000 to put towards its core funding, while Rugby Street Pastors have been awarded £5,950.

Both are part of the Commissioner’s annual grants scheme, which supports projects which boost community safety and help address crime and disorder in the county.

Warwickshire Horse Watch is a volunteer-run scheme for horse owners, helping keep them aware of equine-related crime in their area, which enables them to take preventative action to keep their horses, tack and vehicles safe.

Carol Cotterill, chair of Warwickshire Horse Watch, said: “The Commissioner has given us fantastic support over the past two years, including providing grant funding which has enabled us to reach more people with crime prevention advice and ensure that horse tack and other property can be properly security marked.

“Warwickshire Horse Watch has grown dramatically in this time to over 4,000 members. We have also been held up as examples of good practice nationally, working with the British Horse Society, British Riding Clubs and other police forces.”
