Historic hotel objects to big wheel in Stratford
OWNERS of the Swan’s Nest Hotel in Stratford have registered their objection to a proposed big wheel on Stratford’s Recreation Ground.
The closing date for an extended public consultation about the wheel expired on Monday 13th June, four days prior, Macdonald Swan's Nest Hotel said it objected to the application on planning grounds.
“The appearance of the wheel is completely out of character with the special and historic setting. In our view, it is inappropriate even on a temporary basis, given that the wheel will be visible in long and short range views in and out of Stratford,” the objection reads.
Critically, the hotel’s objection lists privacy as a key concern thus echoing concerns raised by Stratford Boat Club in their submission to Stratford District Council in March.
“Hotel bedrooms face the application site and we therefore object on the basis of overlooking and loss of privacy for guests.”
Noise, artificial light intrusion and increased traffic were also listed as objections by the hotel chain.
An extended public consultation was given by the district council after wheel operators De Koning Leisure Group Limited submitted further information about the observation wheel last month in a bid to get it operational for the summer.
Stratford District Council confirmed it is currently going through the latest consultation results but no date for discussion at committee has been set.
