AN online poll has suggested the people of Stratford are not keen on the proposed big wheel.

Herald Twitter users voted by 69 per cent to 31 per cent against proposals for the wheel which is expected to be set up in the Recreation Ground car park, behind Stratford Boat Club.

Some 284 votes were cast and comments from Twitter users included: @coupe_greg, who wrote: ‘How about the money is spent on a decent road network instead of a bloomin’ giant mouse wheel!’, and @alanclarke1878 wrote: ‘Seriously is this a wind up? Whoever proposed the idea is delusional and misinformed’.

Of those in favour, @crowiesimon wrote: ‘Of course it would be a good thing: more tourists = more money into the town’.

Chris Best, of Stratford Boat Club, which is leading the opposition, said: “We hope the wisdom of the residents and people who love Stratford will prevail and that the council show good sense and realise that the eye should not be situated in Stratford.”
