STRATFORD-upon-Avon Herald photographer Mark Williamson has won the Tony Flanagan News Photographer of the Year award at the 2016 Midlands Media Awards.

The accolade adds to Mark’s highly commended rating at this year’s Regional Press Awards held in London in May.

The News Photographer of the Year award is regarded as one of the highest points any photographer can reach because of the top quality of opposition and companionship that photographers create going about their daily business.

Mark said: “It was an honour to win this award against tough opposition. I’m pleased that good photo journalism has been recognised at the Stratford Herald.”

The judges at Thursday evening’s awards ceremony held at The Birmingham Repertory Theatre said Mark’s submitted photographs “captured the emotion of the moment excellently.”

Mark was presented with an award and framed certificate at the ceremony.
