Helping hedgehogs find new home
THREE hedgehogs who have been lovingly nursed back to full health by three Stratford ten-year-old girls have been found a new home in the grounds of Anne Hathaway’s Cottage.
Kyra Barboutis, Eve Green and Sophie Smith from Hedgehog Friendly Town have been caring for hedgehogs over the last couple of years and last Friday the girls released the rehabilitated hedgehogs who now have new homes to stay in.
The link between Hedgehog Friendly Town and The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is part of an initiative which saw representatives from the Warwickshire Hedgehog Rescue charity and Glyn Jones, the trust’s head of gardens, release the first batch of happy hedgehogs into their new surroundings.
The three girls have been fully committed to their work in caring for hedgehogs.
Their aim is to raise awareness about the well-being of the animals and so they’ve handed out leaflets to school friends to help spread the word on how to protect hedgehogs.
As a result of their campaign the girls were interviewed on regional television and radio talking about their achievements.
“I’m so proud of all of them. They’ve done all of this and they’re only aged ten,” said Helen Barboutis, Kyra’s mum.
Earlier this year the three girls received a special achievement award at the Pride of Stratford Awards which came as a complete surprise to them as they thought they’d been invited to the red carpet affair to enjoy the evening’s proceedings.
